Rep. Maloney Lauds Fashion Industry at FIT

U.S. Representative Carolyn B. Maloney chose FIT as the site of a February 6 press conference to announce a report that she developed with the congressional Joint Economic Committee, showing that New York Fashion Week contributes $856 million to the metropolitan area, more than the U.S. Open ($700 million), last year’s Super Bowl ($500 million), and the New York City Marathon ($340 million). Maloney unveiled the report alongside City Councilmember Daniel Garodnick, State Senator Brad Hoylman, CEO of the CFDA Steven Kolb, and President Joyce F. Brown. The event also spotlighted Karolina Zmarlak, Fashion Design ’07, a successful designer who had received a bridge loan from the New York City Economic Development Corporation’s new Fashion Production Fund.
