Going Greener Faster

A $3.2 million grant to FIT from the Accelerated Conservation and Efficiency program of the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services has enabled three energy-efficient upgrades at the college: a new air-handling unit that can be turned down in the evenings, new hot-water heaters in the academic buildings, and an upgrade to a museum-quality heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system in The Museum at FIT’s accessories collection. Together these improvements will reduce the college’s carbon footprint by more than 1,400 metric tons and save more than a million dollars a year in fuel.
