Stamp-ede!

To create the U.S. Postal Service’s commemorative stamps, a tradition dating back to 1893, stamp art directors hire artists whose work matches their vision. Three Illustration faculty members recently served as stamp artists: Rudy Gutierrez, adjunct instructor, designed a Jimi Hendrix stamp; William Low, assistant professor, created a poinsettia stamp for Christmas as well as a set featuring winter flowers; and Kam Mak, professor and assistant chair, illustrated one commemorating the 2014 Lunar New Year. Mak has been commissioned to design 12 Lunar New Year stamps, annually from 2008 to 2019. The stamps are available for purchase at uspsstamps.com.
