From the Editor

It’s been an eventful few months: In January, Jason S. Schupbach became FIT’s seventh president. His FIT FUTURE//FORWARD strategic planning initiative promises to elevate the college into the world’s preeminent laboratory for creative careers.

And in October, the Joyce F. Brown Academic Building, FIT’s first since the ’70s, opened on West 28th Street, expanding and modernizing the campus with stunning architecture and cutting-edge technology. Also known as “the JFB,” the new building represents a thrilling capstone for President Brown, who transformed FIT into a global leader in her record-breaking 27.5-year tenure as president.

These two once-in-a-generation events are shaping the college’s future. And so the Hue editors devoted this issue to a forward gaze. “The World of AI” explores how FIT is bringing new technology into the classroom and how creatives are using it. “Curves Ahead” showcases innovative and eye-popping mannequins for Kim Kardashian’s body-positive Skims brand, whose retail footprint is expanding rapidly. And “Old and Improved” covers the growing practice of upcycling garments instead of buying new ones—because a sustainable future means less waste and more high-quality, thoughtful design.

But our journey into the future doesn’t end there; more stories await you in this issue. Perhaps you will find some inspiration for your own future—and, as always, we hope it intertwines with ours.
