EDITORS’ NOTE ABOUT RACISM AT FIT

Sep. 28, 2020

Early this year, after a student fashion show included accessories deemed racist, many voices on FIT’s campus and social media called out endemic racism at the college. FIT began the painful process of coming to terms with this reality and then joined in the national reckoning after the murder of George Floyd by police.

The college is developing initiatives to address unconscious bias and systemic racism, not only at FIT, but in the industries that employ our graduates. In our next issue, Hue will begin reporting on these developments, bringing alumni voices to the conversation.

Hue has always celebrated FIT’s diversity and inclusion, but we feel this is no longer enough. We plan to examine the way we address issues related to race, not in a one-off “special issue,” but through a deep and sustained conversation that helps find a path forward. We hope you will join us.
